I'm a big fan of Leo Druker, so I was very happy when he asked me to photograph Emily and Rick's wedding with him at St. Francis Hall near the Franciscan Monastery in Washington, DC. You can see his post about the wedding here. This was the weekend after I photographed Suee and Tad's wedding at the same venue, so it was cool to see a completely different wedding (and type of wedding) there. Here are a few of my favorites:
I loved the simple touch of sprigs of lavender on green napkins. It really gave a classy look without being obtrusive or over-the-top. Plus all the kids at the party were running around with them looking really sweet.
I'm the second photographer sooooo motion blur the entrance - why not?
And this is silly, but there was a fabulous beam of light shooting through the hall during dinner, catching all the little dust particles in the air. I watched it for a long time and nothing interesting happened in my frame, but I thought it was so beautiful I had to share, even though that's Leo right there taking a picture of something else.
Double napkin dab! Love this.
(Belated) congratulations Emily and Rick! And thanks again Leo for having me out.
Emily and Matt are pretty seriously awesome. You don't need to know much more than that they picked the Natural History Museum for their engagement photos. I've become something of a specialist in shooting in the DC museums (thank you DC museums!!) but this was my first go the Natural History. It was rad, I tell you, rad.
This was hilarious. I told Emily and Matt to dance and they just started jumping around and flailing their arms.
I had to amend myself and say "romantic" dancing.
Last and, yeah, probably least, we have engagement photos with Titanoboa! World's biggest snake! Eating what appears to be a gila monster. How could I resist?
Good times, y'all. Look for more from Emily and Matt in just a couple months!
I'll just go ahead and say it: I am basically incapable of spelling Hirshhorn without looking it up. But it sure is a swell place to do some funky engagement photos. Susan and Senthil and I were meant to do an awesome hot air balloon shoot last Saturday but the weather was just not cooperating. We're going to do that and all, but winter is long and we've just begun. Thus we found ourselves on one chilly November morning doin' it big at one of my favorite places to shoot in DC. Y'all, Susan and Senthil:
Did I mention I love shooting in DC's museums? It can be tricky, light-wise. And then sometimes you have this giant floating light cube to play with.
And, because why not, we hopped across the street to the Air and Space to get a couple with space man. If you can't have hot air balloons (immediately), it's the next best thing.
