Sheetal & Ando | Springtime Washington DC engagement

Sheetal & Ando are getting married soon way on back home. DC is a temporary stop for them, so it makes sense for them to capture a slice of their pre-married life right in the District. We wanted to hit a lot of spots, so did an extended engagement session last weekend to sweep up some waterfront views, dog park action and one of the prettiest scenes DC has to offer - the magnolias in full bloom. springtime-dc-engagement-photography-4 They brought along their little love puppy whose name is a Star Trek reference! springtime-dc-engagement-photography-1springtime-dc-engagement-photography-3 They met at sea! How romantic is that? Hence the maritime and water theme here. springtime-dc-engagement-photography-5springtime-dc-engagement-photography-7springtime-dc-engagement-photography-8springtime-dc-engagement-photography-9springtime-dc-engagement-photography-10springtime-dc-engagement-photography-11 We took the doggy to the Shirlington Dog Park to do some candid action. springtime-dc-engagement-photography-12springtime-dc-engagement-photography-14springtime-dc-engagement-photography-15 A quick outfit swap and we rolled to the full-bloom magnolias behind the Smithsonian Castle. Throughout April and early May, there are always some kind of blooming tree to stand near and get pretty flower photos. We missed the cherry blossoms by just a tad for this session, but the magnolias were wonderful. springtime-dc-engagement-photography-17springtime-dc-engagement-photography-18 And then we did some weird ones. Because I like weird and they seemed game. springtime-dc-engagement-photography-19springtime-dc-engagement-photography-20springtime-dc-engagement-photography-21springtime-dc-engagement-photography-22 Congratulations, you guys!

Lyndsey & Chris | Georgetown engagement session | Washington, DC

Georgetown is a really great place to do engagement sessions. Every time I go, I think, "I need to shoot here more often." Lyndsey and Chris set me straight with a romp through their old hood, following up on my always-persistent suggestion that we "shoot somewhere meaningful." Also, don't you wish you had curly hair? Georgetown-engagement-session-3Georgetown-engagement-session-2 One great thing about Georgetown is you have this preppy, pretty area right smack next to a grungy, graffitied, "urban" area, so you get two wildly different looks from the same one-hour-or-so session. Georgetown-engagement-session-6 There was literally one tree low enough for me to use as a backdrop. Georgetown-engagement-session-5 The sweetest graffiti artists ever left "know love!" written for us. Score. Georgetown-engagement-session-7 Congratulations, you guys!

Caitlin & Trevor | Cathedral of St. Matthew wedding | Top of the Town | Washington, DC & Arlington, VA

If Caitlin and Trevor hinted to me how amazing their wedding ceremony venue was, I didn't remember. When I walked into the cathedral where they'd share their vows, my jaw pretty much hit the floor. Their wedding at the Cathedral of St. Matthew and reception at Top of the Town was, in a word, elegant, with a big old scoop of crazy dance party. Top-of-the-Town-wedding-47 We started the day at a pair of townhouses their families had rented in Washington, DC. Caitlin's family was staying in a former convent - it was such a cool place. This is the cathedral where Red Mass is celebrated each year. The lady driving was really funny, giving everybody the full historical breakdown of everywhere we went. Top-of-the-Town-wedding-23Top-of-the-Town-wedding-24 Wanting to add some spice to their portraits, we hit up the National Portrait Gallery and American Art Museum to get in some funky modern art stuff. Top-of-the-Town-wedding-32 Then we took the trolley across the river to Top of the Town for some amazing views, and a raucous party. Here I'm focusing on the monuments through the binoculars. I think it mostly worked, but it's also something of a selfie.
