Laura & Brian | Newseum wedding | Washington, DC

Laura and Brian got married in one of DC's raddest venues, the Newseum. These cool cats are California folks now, but they brought it on back DC-style hard for one crazy night of giant red moons, cardboard cat cut-outs, famous-chef food, cameo singing appearances and even spent a little time with the Berlin Wall. Newseum-wedding-photography-16 We started the day at the JW Marriott. I guess I have the same eye while I'm shooting as while I'm blogging. Newseum-wedding-photography-7 Their ceremony was held on the terrace at the Newseum. It was warm, but you can't beat the backdrop. Liza's pretty great. Newseum-wedding-photography-14Newseum-wedding-photography-15Newseum-wedding-photography-17Newseum-wedding-photography-18 Party time. Newseum-wedding-photography-33 And then plunged into the Newseum for 15 minutes of taking advantage of this super-cool venue. Newseum-wedding-photography-38 The dance floor was hopping. Newseum-wedding-photography-41-copy Newseum-wedding-photography-40 But the scene on the patio was very chill. Newseum-wedding-photography-42Newseum-wedding-photography-43 Chula admired the view. Newseum wedding photography | Washington, DC

Sometimes, when you've been together forever, the big wedding with traditional events and plated dinner just seems off. These two chose to celebrate their union in a very different way - with the most intimate ceremony possible (that is still photographed), followed a month later by a huge party for all their friends and family. A massive shout-out to their brilliant planner Vicky with Event Accomplished who helped them turn the Newseum from a conference center with great views into a rockin' nightclub with fantastic food. And, guys, for real, we got to shoot in the Newseum after hours: Newseum-wedding-washington-dc-10 These two got their marriage on elsewhere, but brought it on home for the party, so we had to do some photos by the Capitol. It's a great space on its own, but they transformed it into a brilliant lounge. Newseum-wedding-washington-dc-8 And then we got to take photos inside, with no tourists, and free reign over exhibits. Yessss. Newseum-wedding-washington-dc-9 You all know I'm not much for the stoic bride and groom, but when you're standing in front of the Berlin Wall, it just seems appropriate. Newseum-wedding-washington-dc-15 This bar isn't normally here. The team arranged four separate pieces so that guests could sit right at the bar.
