Heather & Anthony | Eastern Market engagement

Heather and Anthony bought me dinner at a fabulous restaurant exported from Florence.  Soooo, needless to say, they are on my A+ list.  We started at Acqua Al 2's new room upstairs and then scooted around Eastern Market a bit. engagement photos at acqua al 2 engagement photos in a restaurant engagement photography in a restaurant eastern market engagement photography I tried something new and weird with Heather and Anthony.  I rather like this double exposure thing.  Not so bad for a first try, right? engagement photography double exposure As I told Heather and Anthony, my favorite place to do an engagement session in the city is always somewhere new.  I encourage my clients to pick "somewhere meaningful" for them, because I want their engagement photos to actually talk to who they were as an engaged couple.  But I also recommend that because it means I get to shoot in new locations all the time.  There's always something to play with in any given neighborhood.  For instance, I love the heck out of this image below, which was taken in a tiny courtyard next to some office buildings. It is definitely not a "portrait location."  It's one of the great magic things about photography - what's not in the photo doesn't exist. eastern market engagement session  engagement photos in an alley engagement photography in washington dc washington dc engagement photography Good times, guys!  I'm looking forward to your wedding!

Sara & Cory | L’Enfant Plaza & National Mall engagement

Sara and Cory specifically requested L'Enfant Plaza for its "brutalist architecture", which, any photographer will tell you, is a pretty awesome setting and not your standard engagement session fare.  Plus, I happen to work in L'Enfant Plaza (for just a few short weeks more!) so I know all the cool spots.  Like right here next to the parking garage. washington dc engagement photographer l'enfant plaza engagement photography Or in the lobby of my building.  I have been looking at this spot since they rebuilt the lobby earlier this year.  So fun to actually get to take a couple here!  PS: How completely adorable is Sara's outfit? engagement photos in corporate lobby And my current favorite plaything on the Mall.  Yes, you've seen it before. national mall engagement session engagement photography in parking garage engagement photography on the national mall washington dc engagement photos See you guys in June!

Pamela & James | National Cathedral engagement

I'm really looking forward to Pamela and James' wedding.  They're having a big bash at their beautiful NW DC home - the kind of event I love to photograph.  Good times with good people.  Much like their engagement session!  They wanted to bring their really very charming boys along for the ride.  I'm always telling people how bad I am with kids and how I have no idea what to do with them (this is true, actually, Pamela had to jump in quite a bit to get the desired reaction), but these guys were super super easy to hang out with.  And they're enormously adorable. engagement session with the kids along engagement photographer amber wilkie engagement photography at the national cathedral sweet engagement photography laughing engagement session photo black and white engagement photographs boys running during engagement session engagement photos at the national cathedral I'm constantly concerned I won't be able to pull off the happy-family photo.  Got this one - score! cutest family ever at the national cathedral And who couldn't love a face like this?  P is so handsome and mom had to talk him out of wearing a tux to the photo shoot.  How cute is that? adorable kid at the national cathedral Congratulations everybody!  I'll see you soon!
