Emily & David | Wolf Trap wedding | Vienna, Virginia

Emily and David were married in a very special place, a place where no one had ever been married before. David's family was involved with the founding of Wolf Trap - not "the Barns" wedding venue, but the actual amphitheater and park - and he and Emily decided to say their vows in the Children's Theater, outside, amongst the trees and paths that David grew up playing around. Wolftrap-wedding-photography-25 Emily started the day with her hair stylist of 10 years, Mickey Bolek from Michael Anthony Salon. And, oddly, her makeup artist was someone I see all the time when I get my hair did. DC gets smaller every day. Wolftrap-wedding-photography-2 Then we all hopped in our transports and headed out to a fantastic day at Wolf Trap. Wolftrap-wedding-photography-3Wolftrap-wedding-photography-4 Many cheers to Emilie of Bliss Weddings & Events for planning and All The Things. Sarah & Patrick | Woodend Wedding | Chevy Chase

Sarah and Patrick had a really lovely and down-to-earth ceremony at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Silver Spring and then a beautiful reception with killer light at Woodend Nature Sanctuary - one of my favorite venues in the area. There were approximately eight thousand fireflies in attendance. Woodend-wedding-photography-24 We started the day at the Hilton Garden Inn Silver Spring North with much makeup-ing and hair-ing and nail painting-ing. Woodend-wedding-photography-1Woodend-wedding-photography-2 Sarah and Patrick chose to do a first look in his parents' lovely back yard. Woodend-wedding-photography-4Woodend-wedding-photography-5Woodend-wedding-photography-6 Their church was very relaxed and welcoming. Woodend-wedding-photography-7 And the pastor did a fantastic job. Woodend-wedding-photography-16Woodend-wedding-photography-18Woodend-wedding-photography-19 As always, I love Woodend's wall of stuffed birds. I was determined to photograph Sarah in front of the birds, as I normally only get the groom up in there. The lady at the desk provided very excellent motivation. Woodend-wedding-photography-20Woodend-wedding-photography-21 A toast appreciated by most. Ana & Jon | Decatur House wedding | Washington, DC

Ana and Jon were married at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Georgetown, then held a super-classy reception at the remarkable Decatur House on Lafayette Square, complete with mariachis! They have such a wonderful laid-back vibe, except on the dance floor, where they really tear it up. I'm convinced they threw the whole party just so they could dance together all night - which, if you ask me, is a freakin' amazing reason to have a wedding. Ana and Jon: Decatur-House-wedding-photography-28 We started the day at the Residence Inn Arlington Courthouse. Ana's grandmother is a little firecracker. Decatur-House-wedding-photography-1Decatur-House-wedding-photography-2 Big thanks to Angel for coming out to help with this wedding. I used a bunch of her images in this post. Too many. She was great. Decatur-House-wedding-photography-3Decatur-House-wedding-photography-4Decatur-House-wedding-photography-5 Makeup done, dress on, we scooted to Holy Trinity Catholic Church to get these two hitched. Decatur-House-wedding-photography-6 Loving Angel's street-scene approach. The light was amazing. Decatur-House-wedding-photography-29Decatur-House-wedding-photography-30Decatur-House-wedding-photography-32 And then it was time for the reception - with mariachis! Ana's family is from Mexico, so they brought a little home to their wedding with a big mariachi band, singing all the favorites (I could tell because the entire group knew all the words.) California Chrome didn't triple crown it out, much to these horse-racing fans' disappointment. Decatur-House-wedding-photography-43 But nevermind, there was cake! Decatur-House-wedding-photography-44 I've become somewhat obsessed lately with the hauling-the-cake-off-the-floor shot. I don't know why. It's interesting to me. Decatur-House-wedding-photography-45Decatur-House-wedding-photography-49Decatur-House-wedding-photography-50 These people were big dancers.
