Katherine and Kermit were married last month at the always-charming, always-classy Carnegie Institution for Science in a room filled with smiles, tears and a hundred candles. You may remember these two from their whacky engagement session. I was ready for more antics, but they were far more interested in cuddling and talking sweet to each other than goofing off for the camera (go figure!). Katherine and Kermit:
Big shout-out to Katie from The Plannery (who almost certainly is a mom by now - congratulations Katie!) and Stephanie and Liza from Studio DBI for planning, designing and executing such a beautiful setting for these two to get hitched in. We started the day at the Jefferson.
You'll see about seven thousand photos with the flower girls. Here's #1.
We got these over to the Carnegie so they could say hello.
Did I say there were no antics? I certainly didn't mean to.
Too funny. This is why we do portraits before the ceremony.
Rocking a little wedding street photography before we get into the romantic stuff.
A little prep before go time. K&K designed their ceremony in the round, lit by candles held by their guests.
Shout-out to DJ Mark Maskell, who spun the mad beats.
Slam-you-in-the-face with flower girl pictures in 3, 2, 1...
Congratulations guys!

We did it, folks. We completed another year. In 2014, I documented dozens of unions - full of joy and complexity and faith and love. Some were small affairs - some even small enough that I was the only witness. Some were massive throwdowns. All were really, really great.
I said it last year and the year before (and the year before that), and I'll say it again now: I have the best job and the best clients. Here's a question I get all the time from people at cocktail parties and the like (because I'm super-fancy and I go to cocktail parties alllll the time): "do you have any great stories about bridezillas?" I always disappoint them because no, I really don't. Literally every single couple I have ever worked with has been easygoing, genuinely in love with each other (as far as I can tell!) and, well, nice.
This year, I'm grateful for the opportunity to work with so many lovely couples. I'm grateful that I get to capture such a special day and that the art I make will be cherished for a lifetime, amongst a very small group. I'm grateful for my husband, and I feel so lucky to have found someone with whom I can grow. I'm grateful for the flexibility in my life that allows me to pursue all the silly random things I want to try - like ceramics, improv, guitar, calligraphy. I remain grateful that my body works for me. I'm grateful that there are so many delicious foods in the world to eat. I'm grateful there are so many exciting places to visit and that my life has so far afforded me many travels. I'm grateful for the chance to do the work and for all the couples who are entrusting me with their memories in 2015. We rock on!
And now, some favorites from 2014 weddings:
Thanks, 2014.
Anthony and Christopher were married steps from Mr. Jefferson, rocking his big, pretty memorial. Don't get too excited, though - I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to get married on the memorial itself. But if you're quick and hide in a corner and don't bring too many guests, who's to say you're not just huddled about looking happy because founding fathers, etc. etc.? Democracy, Monticello, marriage! Anthony and Christopher:
There was literally one tree with any leaves still on it.
I try to make people do "sexy GQ" but I always end up preferring candid and fun.
Jefferson silently approves.
Congratulations, guys!
