Two things about this wedding: 1) It was absolutely everything a wedding should be and nothing it shouldn't - filled with family, tears, great food, good music and love. 2) I asked Olivia to sit on a rock that wasn't sturdy. She almost fell over and I almost ruined her dress and her response was "thankfully I have strong quads." That is to say, this intimate, lovely wedding was really a treat to photograph. Plus, look at these two.
Olivia's very talented friend made this bouquet of hydrangeas with flowers from Whole Foods!
Their ceremony and reception was held at the very quaint La Ferme restaurant in Chevy Chase, MD. The restaurant really did a good job in creating a special atmosphere for Olivia and Eric and their guests. The food looked pretty good too.
I'd heard of this, but never seen it before. Olivia and Eric incorporated a "ring warming" ceremony into their program. Everyone at the wedding held the rings for a minute and meditated just a second on happiness and health for the couple.
Married!
Gosh these two were a joy to work with. We ended up having plenty of time to do portraits around the restaurant and on the next block over. And do I need to gush over how beautiful Olivia is? Probably overkill.
The upstairs part of the restaurant had this awesome little French country bench thing going on so of course we had to wrap up our portraits there.
Love.
It's too much cute - I can't take it!
Congratulations you guys!!
Probably five minutes after I arrived at Woodend Nature Sanctuary to help photograph Caroline and David's wedding with the fabulous Tara Welch, I decided that it was my favorite venue in DC. You'll see shortly that the guys' getting-ready room features an entire wall (actually three walls) of taxidermied birds. How weird! How wonderful! And then I met Caroline and David.
These two radiated passion. You know how when you're with two people that are so madly in love you can almost feel it coming off them and it's maybe a little embarrassing to be so close to them kissing because they are obviously really into it? That and they did some awesome Latin dancing. It was hot up in there, folks. But first, the dead birds.
One of David's groomsmen bought him this impressive-ass Johnny Walker Blue Label King George V scotch. They were throwing around all kinds of crazy talk like this bottle of alcohol cost hundreds of dollars. Quite a fancy gift, right? It came in a big blue box with accoutrements.
I love the hell out of this shot of David. Isn't he dapper?
It threatened to rain while they were getting ready but they decided to go for the ceremony in the grove and I'm soooo glad they did. This was an amazing setting for a wedding ceremony. The trees lining the grove were too cool.
And they had deer behind them while they said their vows. How much more magical could a wedding possibly get?
I cannot thank Tara enough for letting me tag along for the couple portraits. These two are gorgeous and I'm so happy to share these images with you!
Their bird-themed decor fit right in with the Audubon nature center.
They hired a live Latin band to play ridiculously danceable music for the first part of their ceremony. It really fired up the dance floor.
And then, because I was second shooting and wasn't obligated to anyone, I snuck outside to steal a few images of the grounds and the reception.
Thanks again to Caroline, David and Tara for having me along. Congratulations you two!
A huge thank you to Cassidy DuHon for having me out to assist with Jimin and Teddy's family-filled and boisterous wedding at the Capitol Hill Baptist Church and Capitol Hill Club!
I really liked Capitol Hill Baptist Church. It was pretty big, but they had giant sliding wooden walls (on right) that separated different sections, giving a large church a more humble feel. Plus, there was a great balcony to get in to take all kinds of photos from all kinds of angles.
Plus, I'm a real sucker for broken symmetry, so I loved the backdrop these wooden walls provided.
I loved how Jimin and Teddy incorporated their families into the ceremony. There was a specific point for the parents of each to come up and hug their children. It was a lovely moment.
There was also plenty of singing, with no small amount of audience participation.
Jimin's bridesmaids carried pink and lime green bouquets - what a great color combination!
There were some real characters at this wedding.
Honest Abe was there, looking on with approval.
I really couldn't get enough of these presidential portraits at the Capitol Hill Club. They gave a very regal feel to the sit-down dinner.
And then it was time to dance!
This was the coolest kid I have ever seen. He was absolutely crazy on the dance floor and the crowd couldn't get enough! Check out his rockin' moves!
Congratulations Jimin and Teddy!
