I know I keep saying it, but I have really rad clients. Without prompting, Vaishali and John suggested we do their engagement session at the Hirschorn Museum, my very favorite on the National Mall. I've had the great fortune to work with two other couples this year who requested museums (and a fourth is coming up in December, yes!) So much win.
Vaishali and John recently moved away from DC, and you know the city misses them. Nevertheless, I'm sure they are rockin' North Carolina hard at this point. And how do I know? Cuz of this.
We hit up the Jefferson Memorial first to score some variety. And for everyone curious (including folks who have requested sessions on the monuments), we were indeed stopped by the Park Police, who let us fire off a handful more frames and go on our way. I continue to have success shooting on the steps, but that's about as far as they'll let you get.
Also, there is a memorial to George Mason behind the Jefferson. Who knew?
Then we hit up the museum. I love shooting in modern art museums.
Congratulations, you guys!
You may remember Megan and Pritpal from their gorgeous Sikh wedding, or maybe from their engagement session. Well they're back! And I'm so excited to share this documentary family session. I'm always trying to make my work (and by necessity, my subjects) more personal, more intimate, more narrative. And this wonderful family gave me the opportunity last week when I photographed them moving into their absolutely stunning new home.
We started at their comparatively small apartment in Clarendon, cleaning up a bit and packing some last boxes.
Then we rolled on out to Maryland to show them moving into their beautiful new home. But first, the Hulk came out.
This chalk wall was already in the house when they bought it. How cool is that!?
There was a temporary break in festivities. Wolverine is a solitary figure.
All was quickly well again, though.
Thanks again Megan, Pritpal and Jack. It was so awesome to document your move-in! Always good to see you guys.
I feel like I keep hitting the jackpot with clients. For instance, on this engagement session, Sara and Aleko got into a fountain for me. Who does that? These two:
First we hit up their sweet rooftop deck.
And then we moved inside for a bit. I love shooting in my peoples' homes - it's so personal. Plus, Sara and Aleko have a really beautiful apartment.
And then we did some photos in their parking garage because... why not! And because I love the light in parking garages. And because Sara and Aleko are awesome.
Ole! (Sara, don't hate me, I love this photo, and you look hot.)
After roaming through the Eastern Market alleys (DC has some seriously awesome back alleys)...
...we rolled onto Navy Yard, which has a really cool new park set up overlooking the river.
Then it was fountain time! In my defense for this, it was really warm that day.
It was great seeing you guys! Can't wait for your wedding!
